Kongowea zone - Fight against malaria- Mombasa County

FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA IN AFRICA
I was motivated by the fact that this menace could be prevented and thousands lives both affected and infected could be living a better life free from malaria. The program in conjunction with the Ministry of Health- Coastal regional of Kenya office and Population Service International (PSI) Mombasa chapter.
The Malaria Eradication project:
Conceptualization of the Project
Many informal settlements in Mombasa and its environment are faced with rampant malaria infections, high unborn child and infant mortalities due to malaria infections. This was a wakeup call for my team and I to make a difference to this community.
Motivating factors
High infant and unborn child deaths among expectant women attributed to malaria infections. High mosquito populations in the coast due to high temperatures which act as predisposing factors
Many poor households unable to access mosquito nets and the necessary chemicals to facilitate the eradication of malaria. Insufficient knowledge on the efficient use of mosquito nets.
Actions
Due to a constraint in resources, he approaches the local public health institution for assistance in terms of accessing the required chemicals, mosquito nets and spray equipment for the malaria eradication programme.
He mobilizes members of our team to provide the required manpower in order to reach out to the community. He distributed mosquito nets to over 600 household within Kongowea Zone, thus impacting more than 4000 people, areas and conducted residual sprays in the residences to control malaria. We also educated the residents on the importance and effective use of mosquito nets. We cleared the breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
Results
A considerably healthy populace with reduced malaria prevalence reduced unborn child, infant mortality rates, sustainable economic growth due to increased life expectancy and less time taken to treat diseases.I put a smile to thousands people in the targeted area.
Fighting off diseases and improving life expectancy through my efforts in the fight against malaria in sensitizing and preventing infections has vastly improved life expectancy as Malaria is one of the world’s leading causes of deaths especially to pregnant women and young children. Thus, he improved quality of life and life expectancy in his quest for improving hygiene.
